TCORS Attorneys in New London - Norwich CT Connecticut

Zoning & Land Use

TCORS has an exemplary record of success in representing clients seeking zone changes, special permits, wetlands approvals, variances, and other municipal land use permits required for the development of land. Our approach to these issues often involves early consultations with local officials and planners, meetings with neighbors and other possible project opponents, active planning with engineers, consultants, and other members of the developer’s team, and thoughtful legal and factual arguments at public hearings.

The following projects are illustrative of our work on land use projects:

  • TCORS represented the developer of a Taftville mill complex on the National Historic Register in obtaining state and local approvals for a 306 unit luxury apartment complex and commercial development, as well as obtaining substantial real property tax abatements from the municipality.
  • TCORS helped a national developer obtain a zone change, special permits, site plan approvals, and coastal site plan approvals for a $30 million hotel, conference center, office complex, and waterfront development in the City of New London from the New London Planning and Zoning Commission.
  • TCORS helped a real estate developer obtain planned unit development approval of 172 units of housing consisting of townhomes and apartment units from the Norwich Commission on the City Plan, in the face of strong neighborhood opposition from neighbors and their counsel.
  • TCORS represented an experienced developer of elderly housing in obtaining text changes in the zoning regulations and site plan approval for more than 100 clustered units of elderly housing from the East Lyme Planning and Zoning Commission.

The firm has successfully defended several dozen zoning appeals challenging client projects in Connecticut courts.
