Profile
Prior to joining the firm in 1987, Joseph J. (Joe) Selinger Jr. was general counsel to the real estate securities program at Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Co.  He has been  and continues to be involved in and responsible for various corporate, securities, loan, and real estate transactions, including:  organization of various business entities; public and private securities offerings; commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions, including “1031 Exchanges”; mortgage loan transactions and workouts; and mergers and acquisitions.  He represents public entities as bond counsel in the issuance of municipal bonds, and also serves as borrower’s or underwriter’s counsel.  Mr. Selinger has lectured frequently on corporate and real estate related matters for continuing legal education courses.

Education
Mr. Selinger is a graduate of Amherst College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Professional Memberships/Associations
Mr. Selinger is a member of the New London County, Connecticut and American Bar Associations as well as the Executive Committee on Business Organizations of the Connecticut Bar Association and the National Association of Bond Lawyers.

Community Involvement
Mr. Selinger was a member of the Connecticut Law Review Commission from 1993 to 2003.  Mr. Selinger is a past President, Treasurer, and Director of the Mystic Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, Inc.  He also serves on the Social Studies Curriculum Renewal Committee for the Stonington, Connecticut School System.  In 2003, Mr. Selinger received a Public Service Award from the Connecticut Secretary of State.
