James J. Philopena

James practices primarily in the areas of Litigation, Employment Law, Administrative Proceedings and Worker’s Compensation.


James’s recent experience includes a clerkship with the Connecticut Superior Court, where he was responsible for researching legal issues and drafting memoranda on behalf of the state’s judges

During his time at Roger Williams University School of Law, James served as a Law Fellow in the Rhode Island Sea Grant Law Fellow Program, as part of the Marine Affairs Institute. As a Law Fellow, James was responsible for researching and presenting his findings on environmental and marine law issues to the non-profits and government agencies who commissioned his work. Researched topics include: direct to consumer sale of finfish in Alaska, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island; and dam owner liability in Rhode Island. As a result of the work done by Rhode Island Sea Grant during James’s fellowship, Rhode Island fishers can now sell their catch directly to consumers.
