Info on Data Security Incident

Tobin, Carberry, O’Malley, Riley & Selinger, P.C. (“TCORS”) is providing notice of a data security incident that may have impacted protected health information (“PHI”) for individuals associated with some of its clients or covered entities. TCORS is a law firm that performs various financial recovery services on behalf of healthcare clients and is working with any impacted client to identify and notify affected individuals.

What happened?

On November 30, 2023, TCORS discovered suspicious activity on its systems. TCORS immediately followed its incident response protocol, began an investigation, and engaged independent computer forensic experts to assist. In January 2024, the investigation determined that an unauthorized individual gained access to TCORS’ systems for a limited period of time and that some data may have been impacted. TCORS worked with a computer forensic expert to determine what personal information may have been affected. On February 13, 2024, this process determined that some personal information may have been impacted. At this time, there is no indication that any personal information has been misused.

What We Are Doing:

TCORS has taken steps to prevent a similar incident in the future. These steps include changing all passwords and deploying an advanced endpoint and detection monitoring software. TCORS is working to identify impacted individuals and will be mailing letters to any impacted individual for whom there is contact information. This letter will contain more information about the incident, steps taken in response, and resources that will be made available to impacted individuals. If an individual’s Social Security number was affected, credit monitoring and identity restoration services will be provided at no cost.

What You Can Do:

Individuals should remain vigilant for incidents of identity theft or fraud by reviewing bank account and other financial statements, as well as credit reports, for suspicious activity. Incidents of identity theft should be reported to law enforcement or the attorney general.
